Senior Supervisor – Refinery Maintenance & Shutdown (Oil & Gas)

Job Summary

Candidate should have extensive experience in refinery maintenance operations, shutdown planning, and execution, with strong technical knowledge of static equipment, piping systems, and refinery processes. The candidate must possess proven leadership skills, the ability to coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams, and strong planning and reporting capabilities to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution of refinery maintenance and shutdown activities.

Qualification & Experience

Minimum 15 years of experience in refinery maintenance operations, shutdowns, and related works.

• At least 5 years in a supervisory role in the oil & gas / refinery sector.

• Strong knowledge of refinery operations, maintenance procedures, and shutdown/start-up activities.

• Excellent proficiency in MS Office, especially MS Excel.

• Experience in MS Project and reviewing Primavera P6 schedules.

• Strong English communication and report-writing capabilities

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Shutdown Execution.

Lead and supervise refinery maintenance activities involving columns, vessels, piping (lines & fittings), and hot works.

• Conduct job surveys and scoping, and develop, review, and execute shutdown and turnaround plans in coordination with planning teams.

• Ensure compliance with ASME codes, Refinery technical standards, and repair/testing procedures.

• Troubleshoot and provide technical guidance for static equipment and refinery systems.

• Coordinate with departments such as Operations (OPD), Rigging, QC, and HSE to ensure smooth execution of works.

• Ensure adherence to refinery shutdown and start-up procedures.

Planning & Reporting

Interpret and review Primavera (P6) schedules for daily planning and monitoring.

• Prepare Method Statements, JSA, and Risk Assessments.

• Generate clear, concise technical reports and documentation in English.

• Review plans, monitor progress, identify deviations, and assist in developing recovery plans when required.

Technical Expertise

Read and interpret equipment drawings, datasheets, manuals, P&IDs, Plant drawings, and piping isometrics.

• Strong knowledge of inspection methods, testing procedures, and welding requirements (WPS).

• Familiarity with refinery static equipment and related maintenance practices.

• Ensure correct application of standards and procedures such as LTO procedures and isolation certificates.

Resource Management

Identify resource needs, constraints, and optimize manpower, tools, and materials.

• Monitor resource utilization and ensure productivity and quality compliance.

Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, motivate, and guide team members to achieve project targets and maintain high productivity.

• Demonstrate strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.

• Execute work effectively with minimal client supervision.

• Apply sound judgement, initiative, and experience to deliver high-quality results.

Preferred Skills

Strong hands-on experience in major static equipment repair works such as:

o Column sectional replacement o Lining panel installation

o Insert plate and nozzle replacement

o Internal tray replacement and bolting bar renewals

Strong hands-on expertise in piping works across various metallurgies, including:

o Pre-fabrication of piping spools o Installation and sectional replacement of process and utility pipelines

o Underground piping replacement in process and utility services

Deep understanding of refinery maintenance methodologies and shutdown best practices.

• Excellent risk assessment and job hazard analysis capabilities.

• High level of initiative, problem-solving ability, and technical competence.
